In training to be tall

With all due respect to Nicole Hollander and the name of her first book — “I’m in training to be tall and blonde” — I look at this photo taken in the late afternoon October sun on Ossabaw Island when the shadows speak another language and I think, “Ah, to have such long legs.” Maybe in another life.

I thought I’d seen it all in Forsyth Park: rugby (men and women), lacrosse, frisbee, fencers, tai chai, volleyball, cheerleaders, softball, sunbathers, but today’s sight was a first: a group of women exercising with their newborns in a carriage cheering (or was it crying?) from the sidelines. Young mothers: you can’t hold them back.
